I’ll provide proof in court, says Sanusi over Berjaya claims

STATE POLLS | Caretaker Kedah menteri besar Muhammad Sanusi Md Nor said he would provide evidence in court over his claims on the Selangor Maritime Gateway (SMG).

“In court lah,” he briefly told Malaysiakini when asked for a timeline.

Asked for a comment on his Selangor counterpart Amirudin Shari’s decision to sue him for defamation, Sanusi (above, right) merely responded: “I’m waiting for him to send the documents. I too have my own documents.”

The PAS leader previously accused Amirudin of being involved in a scandal with Berjaya Group founder Vincent Tan in the Sungai Klang river cleaning project.

Amirudin denied Sanusi’s claims and called it a desperate attempt to divert attention from his ongoing troubles related to the alleged rare earth theft in Kedah.

Berjaya Land Berhad has also denied accusations made by Sanusi, adding they would lodge a police report and take legal action over the matter.

Sanusi was previously reported as claiming that Selangor could incur losses to the tune of RM180 million because of the Klang River cleaning project.

He also questioned how Tan could acquire a significant stake in a Menteri Besar Selangor Incorporated (MBI-Selangor)-owned firm.

Berjaya Land denied they acquired shares in any MBI Selangor-linked firm.

The firm explained that they formed a special purpose vehicle (SPV) called Landasan Lumayan Berjaya Sdn Bhd (LLBSB) - which is a cooperation between MBI Selangor’s subsidiary Landasan Lumayan Sdn Bhd.

It has a 45 percent stake in LLBSB, and Berjaya Land owns 55 percent of LLBSB.

On claims that the company received 600 acres of land from Selangor for free, Berjaya Land said only 103.6 acres of land were approved for the project development.

“The SPV also paid a land premium of RM113.1 million, according to the market value for the 103.6 acres of land,” its chief executive officer Syed Ali Shahul Hameed was reported as saying. - Mkini
