Rockets are still being launched over P Ramasamy’s party resignation and his scathing criticism of the “emperor” in DAP.
In the latest pyrotechnics, the former Perai assemblyperson and central executive committee member Kasthuri Patto engaged in an explosive exchange.
Kasthuri drew first blood with her media statement this evening, in which she recalled her two terms as the Batu Kawan MP.
“Unfortunately, I had to endure the misfortune of having Ramasamy as my state assemblyperson and his self-centred councillors Satees Muniandy and the venomous David Marshel.
“The Ramasamy on the outside is one who picks fights with everyone and puffs his chest as a vocal leader but the Ramasamy I know is manipulative, condescending to women and uncouth.
“Ramasamy had been a master saboteur against me and my team working in Perai under Batu Kawan, but on the outside, he projects himself as the saviour of the Indian community and the patron of Indian rights in Malaysia,” she alleged.
Kasthuri also accused the former Penang deputy chief minister II of “abusing his power and privilege to make life as miserable as possible for those who seem to be aligned with me or even neutral party members, and particularly grassroots leaders.”
Telling him to “count his blessings”, she said DAP had accepted his application to join the party in 2005 when he was unknown in the political sphere and fielded him as a candidate three years later.
Kasthuri said the academic-turned-politician won because of the Hindraf wave and was later made deputy chief minister.
“For 15 years, he enjoyed the power, privilege and perks that came with the job and most importantly because of DAP.
“He and his stooges harassed and tormented me and had virtually blocked any means for me to obtain information about the ongoing events in Perai.
“Ramasamy, you are an ingrate to the party that gave you the platform to create this name, fame and reputation as a so-called fighter for the Indians, when you and your stooges gave hell to me, an Indian woman in my own constituency,” she said.
“Have some decency and stop spinning the story that you had been sidelined and crying victim now. There are no victims here – especially you, Ramasamy,” she added.
Refusing to “hold her tongue” any longer, Kasthuri also criticised Ramasamy for attacking DAP secretary-general Anthony Loke two days before the state election.
“This shows you are a cunning and shrewd politician who puts his ego above the people, the camaraderie and nation. This is a final lesson for you, Ramasamy, that pride comes before a fall and you have bitten the hands that fed you,” she added.
‘Using one Indian to bring down another’
In an immediate response to Malaysiakini, Ramasamy described Kasthuri as a “sycophant par excellence” who is acting on the orders of others.
“The former Batu Kawan MP is entitled to her opinion. It is blatantly clear she has been coached to write this about me. Of course, with expectations of rewards. Well done,” he said.
Ramasamy also termed the attack on him as a “typical case of crab story, using an incompetent Indian to bring down or foul mouth another Indian.”
“Kasthuri can write whatever she wants, but the fact remains she was one of the worst MPs in the history of DAP,” he said.
Ramasamy also said there was no honour or fame for him to gain by joining DAP.
“I was a professor of political science and an international peace consultant before I was asked to join DAP. The post of deputy chief minister II was created specifically for me given my standing in society.
“There was no need to join DAP to rise in fame. I had to resign from my job in Singapore to take part in the 2008 general election. Before I left Singapore, I even refused a counter-offer. She (Kasthuri) is blind to these facts, obviously,” he added.
According to Ramasamy, DAP knew of his standing in the Indian community and had hoped to capitalise on this following the Hindraf movement.
“DAP wanted me as much as I wanted to join the party. I have no regrets joining the party, it was a two-way benefit,” he said.
Ramasamy also criticised Kasthuri’s performance as an MP, claiming her constituents would attest to this.
“You don’t have to ask me, ask her constituents, they will tell you tales of how she neglected her constituency over two terms.
“She was asked not to contest in the last general election. There were too many public complaints about her. She would have lost if she had contested.
“Yet, after deciding not to contest she went around spreading tales and untruths that she was forced not to contest because of the harassment from my staff and others.
“Specifically, she blamed Satees and David. This is the famous or infamous line of Kasthuri blaming others for the horrible job she did as an MP,” he said.
“What a shame and disgrace. She has nobody to blame but herself. Yet, she has the temerity to complain about me, saying that I used the DAP for my personal advancement,” he added.
Describing her allegation as “nothing can be further from the truth”, Ramasamy asked: “What personal advancement? Have I engaged in the illegal accumulation of wealth? Am I facing court charges over corruption or money laundering?
“It is her right to be the slave of the party leaders, but don’t expect such obsequious behaviour from me and others. There is no such thing as blind servility to DAP or to any other political parties. It was my decision to quit the party, mine alone.
“I fully understand why Kasthuri has to engage in this attack against me, this is the only way that she can re-ingratiate herself with the party leaders.
“By launching this uncalled for attack against me, Kasthuri has shown all the traits of sycophant per excellence. Great, keep it up,” he added. - Mkini
