Water issue in Selangor not as serious as Kelantan, Kedah, says Nazmi

KLANG: Natural Resources, Environment and Climate Change Minister Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad has assured voters in Selangor that they will not face water issues as compared to states led by the opposition party.

The PKR vice-president cited Kelantan and Kedah as such states with water issues under Perikatan Nasional's leadership.

He said Selangor, being led by Pakatan Harapan, since 2008 has gone through various developments.

"We know that water is the main issue in Kelantan. (But) earlier today we hear its (caretaker) deputy Menteri Besar Datuk Mohd Amar Nik Abdullah says otherwise.

"He said there is no problem. The people of Kelantan can dig their own water (well).

"That is the mentality of the leaders in Perikatan Nasional," he said during a speech at the Grand Finale Kota Raja event.

Also present were Investment, Trade and Industry (MITI) Minister Tengku Datuk Seri Zafrul Abdul Aziz, Former Permatang Pauh member of Parliament Nurul Izzah Anwar, PH candidate for Sentosa Gunaraj G, Sungai Kandis' Zawawi Mughni, and Kota Kemuning's Preakas Sampunathan

Nazmi said the government is in the process of overcoming the issue of small water reserve in facilitating huge demand.

"Yes, there may be certain limitation, but it is not as grave compared to the basic issues faced by Kelantan.

"After Kelantan, the second state facing a water crisis is Kedah. Both states being led by the same group.

"Selangor is fortunate because it is not a Pakatan Harapan state government, but the Unity Government.

Meanwhile, he also advised the opposition to stop dreaming about changing the Federal Government after the upcoming six state elections.

"If you refused to be in the Unity Government, then become a good opposition.

"Convince the people, advice and criticise us (government) in a good manner.

"Then the people will give you the mandate should you succeed," he said. - NST
