Wee explains appearance at Jacky Cheung gig

 

MCA president Wee Ka Siong has refuted allegations that his appearance at a Jacky Cheung concert on Aug 12 was in dereliction of duty.

Wee pointed out that campaigning for the state polls had ended the night before.

"Cheung's concert started at 8pm, two hours after voting had ended.

"We had to stop campaigning at 11.59pm the day before. That's the law," he said in a video on Facebook.

Clips of Wee attending Cheung's concert went viral over the weekend, with some netizens suggesting that the MCA chief was not with other BN leaders when votes were being tallied.

During the elections for six legislative assemblies on Saturday, only 19 of BN's 108 candidates were successful.

Of the four BN parties, only Umno fielded candidates while MCA, MIC and Parti Bersatu Rakyat Sabah (PBRS) sat out.

When an unidentified individual in the clip suggested that Wee was "very free" during the campaigning period, the MCA president showed nine photographs to prove that he was part of the BN campaign.

To the individual’s suggestion that Wee's companion at the concert was his "girlfriend", the Ayer Hitam MP quipped that the companion was his "ex-girlfriend", implying that it was his wife. - Mkini
