Former Terengganu menteri besar Ahmad Said will be staying out of the upcoming Kemaman parliament by-election.
Sinar Harian quoted Ahmad saying that his name was not on the BN's candidates' list.
Ahmad (above), who contested in Kemaman and lost to Perikatan Nasional's Che Alias Hamid, said he had personally proposed for the party to field a new candidate.
"I won't be the candidate and the contender will be among big names (in Umno)," he said during a function with the Kemaman by-election machinery last night.
Ahmad added that he had discussed the matter with Umno president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, who in turn, informed Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim.
"InsyaAllah, on Nov 13, the party president will announce BN's Kemaman candidate at a function in Kuala Lumpur," he said.
In GE15, Ahmad lost to Che Alias - who polled 65,714 votes in a four-way contest.
The Kemaman by-election was called after PN decided not to appeal against the Kuala Terengganu Election Court’s nullification of its victory in the seat.
PAS, at the time, made the decision after being informed that the Kemaman election petition verdict was the same as a previous Election Court ruling that nullified PN's victory in Kuala Terengganu. - Mkini
