Another DAP MP takes legal action against Siti Mastura

Seputeh MP Teresa Kok will be suing Kepala Batas MP Siti Mastura Muhammad for defamation "very soon" after the PAS lawmaker failed to respond to her letter of demand.

This is over Siti Mastura’s remarks affiliating several DAP leaders, including Teresa, to the Communist Party of Malaya.

Teresa, who is the second DAP lawmaker to take further legal action against Siti Mastura, had filed the letter of demand on Nov 10 which expires today.

“Until now, I have not received any letter of apology and have ordered for defamation action to be taken against her,” she said at a press conference in Parliament today.

According to the letter of demand prepared by law firm S N Nair & Partners, Teresa demanded Siti Mastura to unequivocally retract the “slanderous” and “libellous” words she made and issue an unconditional apology.

Teresa also demanded that Siti Mastura pay RM10 million in damages and submit a letter of undertaking to not make the same allegations again.

According to Teresa, the Kepala Batas MP’s allegations were not only defamatory but also seditious.

One big ‘DAP family’

During a PAS programme in Kemaman, Terengganu, Siti Mastura gave a speech where she claimed DAP chairperson Lim Guan Eng was related to CPM leader Ong Boon Hua, known as Chin Peng, and former Singapore prime minister Lee Kuan Yew.

She also claimed Guan Eng is related to Teresa, as well as other DAP leaders such as party secretary-general Anthony Loke, Local Government Development Minister Nga Kor Ming and Beruas MP Ngeh Koo Ham.

In her speech, Siti Mastura alleged that Teresa and Guan Eng’s wife Betty Chew were also related.

On Tuesday (Nov 14), Siti Mastura’s lawyer Ahmad Amzar Ahmad Azlan acknowledged receiving four letters of demand from DAP leaders, including Teresa, Guan Eng, Betty Chew, and Kit Siang.

The lawyer, however, said they have yet to go through the letters of demand.

Guan Eng has also initiated legal action against Siti Mastura.

Meanwhile, after being questioned by the police over her allegations, Siti Mastura said that she had handed over the "reference material" for her claims. - Mkini
