Bersatu to hold urgent meeting after 4 MPs back govt

 

Bersatu president Muhyiddin Yassin has accused ‘rival parties’ of ‘offering kickbacks and making threats’ against its MPs.

PETALING JAYA: Bersatu’s leadership will hold an emergency meeting tonight after four of its MPs pledged their support for the unity government.

Bersatu president Muhyiddin Yassin condemned the action of the four MPs, saying it contravened the party’s stand and was a serious breach of party discipline.

“They have also gone against the mandate of the people, who elected them on the basis of the principles and struggles of Perikatan Nasional,” he said in a statement today.

Muhyiddin, the PN chairman, claimed that there was an organised move by “rival parties” to weaken the coalition and his party “by offering kickbacks and making threats” against its MPs.

“The Bersatu Supreme Council will hold an emergency meeting tonight to discuss these new developments.

“Bersatu will not bow to this, and stern action will be taken. I urge Bersatu members to remain calm in defending the party’s principles while the top leadership handles the matter,” said the former prime minister.

Jeli MP Zahari Kechik, Gua Musang MP Azizi Abu Naim, Labuan MP Suhaili Abdul Rahman and Kuala Kangsar MP Iskandar Dzulkarnain Abdul Khalid have stated their support for Anwar Ibrahim’s government.

They said they were supporting Anwar for the sake of their constituents.

Suhaili has already been suspended from Bersatu for six years, and Iskandar Dzulkarnain for four years. - FMT
