NIBONG TEBAL: A factory bus driver who kept on driving for 12 years without renewing his driving licence was among errant road users caught under Ops Patuh recently.
The 48-year-old was ferrying 33 foreign workers from a factory in Batu Kawan to their dormitory in the Valdor area when he was checked during a joint operation by the road transport department (JPJ), Penang traffic police and National Anti-Drugs Agency.
The driver claimed to have been unable to renew his licence for over 10 years as he had used up his money to pay his traffic summonses.
He also claimed he was merely a substitute driver, paid RM30 per journey.
Penang JPJ director Adenan Isa said they had impounded the bus, issued the driver with a summons and taken action against his employer for hiring an unlicensed person to drive the vehicle.
Ops Patuh, held since Nov 1, saw action taken against 2,203 vehicles with 2,806 summonses issued for various offences.
Most of the offences were for not having a valid driving licence (763 cases), no valid road tax (421), no insurance coverage (381) and not having a public service vehicle licence (113). - FMT
