The Chaoyang District People’s Court in Beijing will begin hearing claims for compensation for families of MH370 passengers.
The plane, which disappeared on March 8, 2014, was originally scheduled to fly from Kuala Lumpur to Beijing and carried 239 people on board, 153 of them being Chinese nationals.
According to a report by CNN, family member Jiang Hui is suing Malaysia Airlines, its insurer, Boeing and the manufacturer of the plane’s engine.
He is demanding compensation, a formal apology, and the resumption of psychological assistance to family members, as well as the creation of a fund to continue the search for the plane.
His mother, Jiang Cuiyun, was one of the victims of the mysterious disappearance of the plane, which, till today, has yet to be found.
“Almost 10 years on, the family members (who refused to accept settlement offers) did not receive any apology or a penny of compensation,” Jiang reportedly said. He said that he felt both a sense of relief and a deep helplessness.
Some 40 Chinese families are taking the companies to court with overlapping appeals. Hearings are expected to last until Dec 5. - Mkini
