‘Communist ties’ claims: Wan Saiful dares DAP to sue BN too

Former Bersatu information chief Wan Saiful Wan Jan today challenged DAP chairperson Lim Guan Eng to sue BN over allegations contained in the Pakatan Harapan partner's 15th general election campaign booklet.

Speaking to reporters in Parliament, the Tasek Gelugor MP said the booklet titled "Bahan Kempen Komunikasi BN" included claims similar to the ones recently made by Kepala Batas MP Siti Mastura Mohamad, linking DAP leaders with former communist leader Ong Boon Hua, popularly known as Chin Peng.

"In this official document it is printed... the link between DAP and the communist party.

“On pages 129 and 130, there’s a topic, ‘communist ideology’,” said Wan Saiful, who stood alongside former Umno Seremban Youth chief Zool Amali Hussin.

Zool Amali, now a PAS member, said the booklet was distributed to all Umno machinery prior to nomination day for GE15 last year.

Wan Saiful went on to read out excerpts from the booklet on “Chin Peng’s family history” that started with DAP adviser Lim Kit Siang and former Singapore prime minister Lee Kuan Yew as his “cousins”.

He also pointed out that the BN booklet mentioned other DAP leaders who were cited by Mastura as being related to each other and Chin Peng.

"So, what I would like to state is that this is not an issue only raised by Perikatan Nasional. It originated from here (booklet).

“If any (legal) action was to be taken, make sure to also take action against those who printed and distributed these booklets.

“That is the real issue. So, I’m waiting to see when Bagan (Guan Eng) will take action against Umno and BN in particular,” he added.

Legal actions

Yesterday, Guan Eng confirmed that he has initiated legal action against Siti Mastura for alleging he is related to Chin Peng after the PAS’ young women’s wing leader refused to furnish “evidence” of her allegations.

Seputeh MP Teresa Kok

Earlier in Parliament today, Seputeh MP Teresa Kok similarly confirmed she would be suing Siti Mastura for defamation "very soon" after the PAS lawmaker failed to respond to her letter of demand.

On Wan Saiful’s call to act against BN, Kok, when contacted, said: “None of the BN leaders have said these stupid things in public.”

She added that she was made aware of the booklet and its contents based on a recent Facebook post by Bersatu leader Badrul Hisham Shaharin.

Multiple police reports were also lodged against Siti Mastura, who was summoned for questioning on Tuesday, and her lawyer later said they had submitted “reference materials” in relation to her claims.

Wan Saiful, however, declined to comment on whether Siti Mastura had referred to the BN’s booklet as a source of her claims, which could also be found on social media.
