Dewan Rakyat passes Budget 2024 with voice vote

The Dewan Rakyat has passed Budget 2024 tonight with a voice vote.

There was no call for a bloc vote on the matter.

This is Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim's second budget as prime minister, with the first being a revised Budget 2023 which was never passed by the Dewan Rakyat last year.

The budget vote was initially expected to be held on Tuesday.

However, the lower house managed to finish debating all ministries’ portions of the budget in the committee stage tonight, with the Higher Education Ministry being the last.

Following this, Deputy Finance Minister Ahmad Maslan rose to close the debates and call for the budget bill to be passed.

At RM393.8 billion, this is the biggest budget to be tabled to date.

The bill will now be sent to the Dewan Negara, where it is expected to sail through and pass easily.
