Harakah files appeal over accreditation revocation

PAS mouthpiece Harakah has filed an appeal over the revocation of its government-accredited media cards.

“Yes, Harakah has filed an appeal,” PAS information chief Ahmad Fadhli Shaari told Malaysiakini.

However, he could not confirm to whom or to which department the appeal was sent.

Earlier today, Communications and Digital Minister Fahmi Fadzil said media organisations can file an appeal if their accreditation cards are revoked.

Quizzed on the reason for revoking Harakah’s accreditation, the minister was unable to provide details but said the Information Department must have had valid reasons for doing so.

Yesterday, Malaysiakini reported that it sighted a copy of the Information Department’s letter to Harakah.

Based on the letter, the publication was sanctioned over a Nov 6 article titled ‘Malaysia Di Bawah Anwar Ragu-Ragu Sokong Palestin?’ (Malaysia under Anwar hesitant about supporting Palestine?).

The article, penned by PAS ulama chief Ahmad Yahaya, suggested that Anwar’s administration was being led by the West. It also featured a photo of an Israeli flag behind the prime minister.

Anwar also lashed out at the author in the Dewan Rakyat yesterday, calling him “biadab” (insolent).

He then listed the efforts undertaken by his government to put an end to the violence in Gaza, saying: “Every day, we work on this case.”

However, Ahmad said he was not making an allegation but merely posed a question. He demanded that the prime minister retract the “insolent” remark. - Mkini
