MACC has found no traces of corruption so far among the four Bersatu MPs pledging support for Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim.
This is according to sources privy to the anti-graft agency's investigation on the matter.
“Our investigators have recorded the four MPs’ statements last week. From what I was informed, the MPs came to MACC headquarters in Putrajaya.
“So far, the initial investigation found no element of corruption in their actions,” said a high-level source.
It was understood that MACC has yet to wrap up their probe into the matter, as sources indicated that investigators are still working on the case.
When contacted, MACC chief Azam Baki confirmed that the agency has interviewed the four opposition MPs.
However, he remained tightlipped when asked for official confirmation of the investigation findings.
Bribe, threat claims
Recently, four Bersatu MPs separately declared their support for Anwar but maintained that they were still loyal to the party.
They are Iskandar Dzulkarnain Abdul Khalid (Kuala Kangsar), Suhaili Abdul Rahman (Labuan), Zahari Kechik (Jeli), and Mohd Azizi Abu Naim (Gua Musang).
Following this, Bersatu and Perikatan Nasional leaders accused the government of using intimidation and bribes to get the MPs into supporting the government.
On Nov 16, Azam reportedly told Bernama that MACC would summon the four MPs to investigate allegations of corruption in the switching of support.
