None of our MPs support Anwar, says PAS veep

PAS vice-president Amar Nik Abdullah said it is common for opposition MPs to mingle with government MPs in the backbenchers’ room at Parliament House.

PETALING JAYA: A vice-president of PAS, Amar Nik Abdullah, has denied any of the Islamic party’s MPs are planning to support Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim’s government.

He said he had not heard any information regarding the matter and described it as speculation, Utusan Malaysia quoted him as saying.

“Instead, what we have heard is that there may be MPs from Pakatan Harapan who might switch their support and join the opposition,” he said.

He said it was common for an opposition MP to be in the backbenchers’ room at Parliament House, where government MPs gather. “I did so many times when I was in Parliament. It’s common to go in, have a coffee, and meet with friends in that room. For us, there’s nothing to it. Just going in for a drink of water is very common,” he told reporters after delivering a Friday morning lecture.

Last week, Umno president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said more opposition MPs would announce their support for Anwar, adding that the support given by Bersatu MPs so far should be accepted in good faith.

Four Bersatu MPs have declared support for Anwar while saying they would remain in Bersatu. They are Labuan MP Suhaili Abdul Rahman, Kuala Kangsar MP Iskandar Dzulkarnain Abdul Khalid, Gua Musang MP Azizi Abu Naim and Jeli MP Zahari Kechik.

Suhaili and Iskandar were later suspended by Bersatu. - FMT
