PKR’s name, logo no longer on Liberal International’s website

KUALA LUMPUR: UK-based Liberal International has agreed to PKR’s request for the party’s name and logo to be removed from the organisation’s website.

“I’ve just been informed that Liberal International has taken down the party’s (name and) logo from their website and they have acknowledged that we are not a member,” he told reporters after an event at IWK Eco Park here today.

A check by FMT confirms that PKR’s name and logo were removed from Liberal International’s website as only seven organisations remain as its Asian members, including Perikatan Nasional’s component party Gerakan.

Yesterday, Fahmi said he had contacted Liberal International seeking to remove PKR’s name and logo from the organisation’s official website, adding the party is not a member and had never paid any membership fee.

The communications and digital minister previously dismissed social media posts on the party being linked with Liberal International, an organisation that stands in solidarity with the people of Israel in the current war in Gaza.

He said today that based on information from the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission, more than 200 posts had been found on social media linking PKR to the organisation and “attacking the party, myself and the prime minister”.

“So, this is indeed a coordinated behaviour and a political attack. It’s important for me to clarify the facts and that PKR is not a member of Liberal International.”

Fahmi also said PKR would consider taking legal action against malicious parties linking it to Liberal International.

He asked lawyers to look into the slander and malicious lies spread by unscrupulous parties against PKR and advise the party accordingly.

Gerakan secretary-general Loh Kah Yong yesterday criticised the organisation for showing support towards Israel without getting a consensus from its members.

Loh said Gerakan would not hesitate to leave the organisation if it does not retract its statement in support of Israel. - FMT
