Press pass for Harakah reporters revoked, claims PAS MP

Pasir Mas MP Ahmad Fadhli Shaari said Harakah received letters from the information department revoking the press passes of its reporters.

KUALA LUMPUR: A PAS MP this evening claimed that the information department had revoked the press passes of reporters from Harakah, the party’s official mouthpiece.

Ahmad Fadhli Shaari (PN-Pasir Mas) said Harakah received letters from the department today stating that the passes of its reporters had been revoked.

“We have never been treated like this since the time of ‘mahazalim’,” he told the Dewan Rakyat, using a moniker used to describe former prime minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad.

Fadhli’s claim drew a riposte from RSN Rayer (PH-Jelutong) who asked the PAS information chief whether Harakah’s debts had been settled, alluding to the arrears owed to two of the paper’s printers since 2019, Angkatan Edaran Enterprise Sdn Bhd and NAJ Press Resources.

Angkatan Edaran has since been declared bankrupt.

An irate Fadhli shot back, saying the matter was now in court.

“I can’t understand how Jelutong became a lawyer. If the matter has been brought to the court, there is no need to bring it inside (the Dewan Rakyat).”

An argument then broke out between Fadhli, Rayer and Ahmad Marzuk Shaary (PN-Pengkalan Chepa) but was cut short by Dewan Rakyat Speaker Johari Abdul, who issued a warning to Rayer.

In 2019, PAS secretary-general Takiyuddin Hassan revealed that Harakah had run into debt with its previous printer.

Last month, Harakah’s former printers slammed PAS for living a “lavish lifestyle”, despite the fact that the outstanding payments had yet to be settled, according to Malaysiakini. - FMT
