Rampant money politics led by PM, claims Wan Saiful

Bersatu supreme council member Wan Saiful Wan Jan has claimed that money politics is becoming rampant and accused Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim of being the source.

This came after two Bersatu lawmakers shifted their support for Anwar’s leadership in less than 24 hours, citing the wellbeing of their constituents.

Speaking to reporters at the Parliament today, Wan Saiful based his claims on Labuan lawmaker Suhaili Abdul Rahman, who has been given access to Putrajaya’s allocation to government MPs after just a week of declaring support.

“It’s so calculated and so well-organised. And it relates directly to payments from the government (to MPs who have aligned their support to the government).

“If he (Anwar) doesn’t agree to money politics, he would have announced from the start that any MPs who support him will not be given allocations.

“However, he did not deny it. In fact, he welcomed the MPs’ maturity (when speaking) at the Parliament. Hence, he (Anwar) is not a person of integrity to speak about it (integrity),” said the Tasek Gelugor MP.

Currently, Jeli MP Zahari Kechik has become the fourth Bersatu lawmaker to pledge support for Anwar in the last two weeks, following Kuala Kangsar MP Iskandar Dzulkarnain Abdul KhalidSuhaili, and Gua Musang MP Mohd Azizi Abu Naim, all of whom cited constituency issues as a key reason for their shift in support.

Asked if the MPs who “defected” will be renominated to contest their seats in the next general election, Wan Saiful said it wasn’t his place to comment.

“I don’t know what the party will decide. But, if it’s up to me, they do not deserve to be Bersatu candidates again,” he asserted.

Meanwhile, the former Bersatu information chief also claimed his party has become a “target of political attack”.

However, he said the party should take it as a recognition that they are being watched by Anwar’s administration.

“This shows that Bersatu is the real threat to Anwar’s government and this is why they are continuously attacking us.

“We understand there will be an effect (on the party). The Bersatu leadership takes note of this and will hold further discussions on this matter,” he added. - Mkini
