Singapore warns against displaying logos related to Middle East conflict

Singapore has warned citizens and travellers not to display any logos of Hamas or Al-Qassam Brigades.

Its Home Ministry notified that offenders can be issued a fine, jailed or denied entry into the country.

In a statement on Monday, the ministry said unless expressly exempted, the public display of foreign national emblems without a permit is an offence under the Foreign National Emblems (Control of Display) Act 1949 which carries a fine of up to SG$500 (RM1,723), up to six months in jail or both.

"The ongoing Israel-Hamas conflict is an emotive issue. We would like to advise against the public display and wearing of articles in relation to the conflict, given the heightened sensitivities.

"All travellers using our checkpoints are also advised not to display or wear such articles. The authorities will take firm action against those who refuse to comply, including denying their entry into Singapore," it added.

The ministry explained measures must be taken to ensure peace and harmony in Singapore.

Those who wish to show support to those affected by the ongoing conflict should contribute to authorised fundraising activities and donation drives in support of humanitarian relief efforts, it said. - Mkini
