PETALING JAYA: Finding fault, humiliating, spreading slander and conspiring to topple one another should stop so that the country can progress and the people are more prosperous, says the sultan of Perak, Sultan Nazrin Shah.

He said doing all this would make the world and country more peaceful, for the benefit of the people, Bernama reported.

Sultan Nazrin said this at the pledge of loyalty and investiture ceremony held in conjunction with his 67th birthday at Istana Iskandariah in Kuala Kangsar.

Accompanying the sultan was the Raja Permaisuri of Perak, Tuanku Zara Salim.

Also present were deputy prime minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi and menteri besar Saarani Mohamad.

Sultan Nazrin urged the menteri besar and state executive council members to uphold the trust bestowed on them and not to disappoint the people who gave them the mandate to govern.

“Understanding the heartbeat and pulse of the people as well as the ability to intelligently define the various events happening throughout the country and around the world, as well as the ability to identify the real truth, is a heavy responsibility.

“The people should not continue to be left hoping when promises are not fulfilled.

“The hopes of the people who want a government based on the law, one that has integrity, clear of corruption and which does not abuse power, must be realised together,” he said.

Sultan Nazrin said this responsibility should also be borne by the members of the state assembly, judges, scholars, armed forces, police and other uniformed bodies.

“I also urge the private sector, voluntary bodies, charitable organisations, youth groups, sports bodies and the people as a whole to cooperate and complement the development efforts pioneered by the state government,” he said. - FMT
