ASIN: An accident involving two lorries and a multi-purpose vehicle (MPV) at KM198.2 southbound of the North-South Highway (PLUS) near here early Friday (Nov 17) caused a massive traffic jam stretching for about seven kilometres.
Jasin district police chief DSP Ahmad Jamil Radzi said that in the 1am incident, the lorries laden with butter and frozen products collided with a Toyota Alphard carrying four foreign tourists.
"Investigations show that the two lorries coming from the northern direction towards Johor are believed to have grazed each other at that location.
"That caused the 30- and 32-year-old drivers to lose control of their vehicles and veer into the opposite lane,” he said in a statement this morning.
Ahmad Jamil said the MPV, driven by a 34-year-old man, coming from the opposite direction could not avoid the two lorries, resulting in the crash.
He said all the victims were taken to Melaka Hospital and the case is being investigated under Section 43(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987. - Bernama
