Tiong tells Wan Saiful to focus on graft case, threatens legal action

Bersatu lawmaker Wan Saiful Wan Jan should focus on his own corruption case rather than meddle with the affairs of others, said Tourism, Arts, and Culture Minister Tiong King Sing.

Tiong also threatened to take legal action against the Tasek Gelugor MP if the latter continued to “condemn” him for drinking alcohol.

Wan Saiful yesterday said it was wrong for the minister to be drunk in public.

This was in response to videos of the minister drinking and dancing at an event in Pelangai, Pahang, last month.

In a video posted on Facebook today - which included scenes of the minister drinking and dancing with others at the event - Tiong said it was Wan Saiful who has a bad public image right now.

“I drink, I dance, does that make my image as a minister bad? Go and see what the people are saying.

“Your party talks about corruption every day but now your own party has a lot of people (facing) corruption (cases).

“Mind your own party image first, especially your own image,” Tiong said.

Wan Saiful is on trial for corruption and faces 20 charges of money laundering, including allegedly pocketing RM3.17 million in illegal proceeds.

‘Prove I was drunk’

Meanwhile, Tiong also challenged Wan Saiful to prove that he was drunk in that video.

The minister explained that his behaviour was because he was playing with children as part of the Mid-Autumn festival celebrations in Pelangai, Pahang.

He said even if he was drunk, Wan Saiful should explain whether he committed an offence or did questionable things.

“Only then should you question (my behaviour). Don’t think you are so great in politics.

“I reserve my right to take any action against you if you continue to condemn me,” he said.

“You want to fight? Fight-lah, I have no problem,” he also said.

Meanwhile, Tiong - who is also the Sarawak-based Progressive Democratic Party (PDP) president - said that if he can respect Islam and its culture, then Wan Saiful should also respect non-Muslims and their culture.
