Two PN MPs claim they were contacted to switch support for PM Anwar

Two Perikatan Nasional lawmakers claimed that they were offered positions and projects in return for defecting and pledging support for Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim.

Kubang Pasu MP Ku Abd Rahman Ku Ismail and Besut MP Che Mohamad Zulkifly Jusoh revealed this during a press conference at PN headquarters today.

Ku Abd Rahman (above, left) claimed he was contacted by an unnamed individual via WhatsApp with an offer to build a hotel in his constituency.

"I got a message from someone; apparently he has studied our background and my constituency.

“He proposed to open a boutique hotel in my area behind Darulaman Golf Club. I immediately blocked him,” he said.

Che Mohamad (above) said that he was contacted by a ‘Datuk’ by the name of Rizal Adham.

The individual had allegedly sent the Besut MP an email proposing a 40-room hotel in the constituency.

“I just received an e-mail from 'Datuk' Rizal Adham, for the proposed development of a 40-room hotel equipped with a swimming pool and a retail supermarket in Besut,” he said.

Malaysiakini cannot independently verify the lawmakers' claims.

Both lawmakers said this when asked to comment on Tasek Gelugor MP Wan Saiful Wan Jan's claims that attractive offers were given as a reward to opposition MPs in exchange for leaving their party.

Apart from building hotels, the offers included an invitation to lead a government-linked company (GLC), or a chili plant project.

Separately, PN chief whip Takiyuddin Hassan said that the opposition will negotiate with the government regarding equal allocation for opposition lawmakers.

Takiyuddin alleged that Deputy Prime Minister Fadillah Yusof, who was tasked with handling the negotiations, had requested that the opposition write a letter to the government with certain guarantees.

The Kota Bharu MP did not elaborate on what the guarantees were or what undertakings were requested by the government.

“Back in the days of (former prime minister) Ismail Sabri Yaakob, the government offered the opposition to sign a memorandum of understanding... this time why do we have to send a letter and give certain undertakings?

“That's why it (the negotiation) stopped; we won't write anything to get MP allocations,” he said - Mkini
