‘We still have 4 planes’ – MYAirline denies it is without a fleet

PETALING JAYA: Troubled budget carrier MYAirline has denied a news report that it has been left without a fleet, and said only six of its 10 aircraft have been deregistered by the aircraft leasing company.

MYAirline said the remaining four remain registered and are managed by the lessors, assisted by MYAirline’s airworthiness management unit.

In a statement this evening, the airline said the aircraft had been under the control of the leasing company since Oct 13 (a day after the airline suspended operations) “and this is not a recent development”.

MYAirline said it is actively engaged in talks with its lessors regarding the retention of the aircraft once the company’s recapitalisation is finalised.

The budget carrier had abruptly suspended operations on Oct 12 less than 11 months after it took to the skies, and cited “severe financial challenges” as the reason. It later said the company had lacked a back-up plan to resolve its faltering finances.

On a separate matter, MYAirline said its air operator’s certificate and air service licence have been suspended and had not been revoked.

The licence was suspended by the Malaysian Aviation Commission on Wednesday, while the operator’s certificate was suspended for 90 days by the Civil Aviation Authority of Malaysia on Oct 16. - FMT
