YOURSAY | ‘History will not be kind to Mahathir.’
DAP worked with Mahathir hoping he had changed – Loke
I used DAP, they used me too - Dr M on GE14 alliance
GanMu: For a man of his stature, it is unacceptable for former prime minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad to say “I used DAP, they used me too”.
There was no such thing as who was using who. DAP, PKR, Amanah, and Bersatu all came together voluntarily with a clear objective to face the election as one under Pakatan Harapan with the sole aim of winning the election.
This was an honourable coalition of respectable parties.
Mahathir, however, appears to have forgotten this and, as usual, is going after DAP.
Now that he has befriended PAS, DAP has become his new enemy. Very cunningly, he has left out PKR, Amanah, and Bersatu.
The more he runs down DAP, the stronger it will become. Although he talks about gratitude, I would like to think that he is an ungrateful man.
If not for DAP, including others, he would never have dreamed of becoming prime minister again.
Having been prime minister of a multi-racial country - a prime minister for all - for more than 20 years, there is still no feeling of compassion nor love for others. It is all about himself and what he can do to gain attention.
BlueFish0451: It is a lie that DAP used Mahathir. DAP and Harapan were there and fought every election, including the 14th general election.
Mahathir jumped out of a sinking ship to form Bersatu and took advantage of Harapan by joining forces with them and reaching an understanding to hand over power to PKR president Anwar Ibrahim later.
After winning the election, Mahathir became the prime minister and his small and new party took most of the cabinet seats while others nicely allowed him the prerogative.
Mahathir planned the Sheraton Move to stop the demand to honour the handover of the prime ministership to Anwar.
The Harapan government collapsed as a result. Even though Muhyiddin Yassin took over the prime minister’s position, to this day, no one is certain whether he snatched it from Mahathir or that was all part of the scheme.
Mahathir’s sudden resignation also remains a question mark.
Bamboo: I still hold faith in the good in people. So, I will give Mahathir the benefit of the doubt that he wanted to do good things for Malaysia during his second time around as prime minister.
Unfortunately, Mahathir does not seem to have any good thoughts about the country and, due to his issues, he brought the whole country into a tailspin by resigning abruptly.
He also put roadblocks to any reform for the benefit of the country. He refused to pass the baton to Anwar as agreed, so he chose the path to be a pure politician, not a statesman.
He did bring about physical development in Malaysia, but he is responsible for corruption, racism, and mediocrity. History will not be kind to Mahathir.
OrangePanther1466: With Mahathir entering the fray, former prime minister Najib Abdul Razak’s BN was toppled, and Anwar was freed upon receiving a pardon from the Agong.
There were excellent people put in charge of the Attorney-General’s Chambers, MACC, the police, and even the Dewan Rakyat speaker position.
Many new and credible people were appointed ministers. So why was this cooperation with Mahathir bad for Harapan?
If Anwar had not been in a hurry to become prime minister, the Sheraton Move would not have happened and Anwar would have been duly elected as prime minister after the 15th general election with a comfortable majority.
Have you all thought of looking at it that way?
PMB: Why was DAP so naive? Did they think Mahathir would bring about change at the expense of Malay interests? If so, then they deserved to be fooled!
Mahathir’s bottom line is Malay interests as they are the majority. He’ll sacrifice anything to ensure Malays are empowered to call the shots. If people don’t understand that, they will never know how to handle him.
B Lee: Mahathir is really an old shameless fox! He doesn’t mind joining forces with anyone or any party as long as he gets what he wants.
He can condemn someone and then shake hands, forgetting everything he had said. He once said, “Melayu mudah lupa” (Malays forget easily). Just like the saying goes, a leopard never changes its spots. One should never trust him again.
He is a selfish person who never brought about changes to the nation but fought for his own interests.
He will go down as the two-time prime minister who brought about disaster to the country.
Nadanx641: Back then, we voted for Harapan mainly to put a stop to the kleptocrats and with the hope that Mahathir could lead the change for a better and equal nation.
It was certainly not for Anwar to become prime minister as we knew his weaknesses in leadership, administration, and capability in running this country other than social matters on religion.
Shalimar Abdullah: What about you, DAP secretary-general Anthony Loke? You fooled us too! You held hands with Mahathir to oust Bossku and Umno, which happened.
We voters continued to vote against the corrupt.
Yet at the end of the day, you let us down and are now holding hands with the kleptocrats, all for the sake of power!
You are ignoring everything that you and Anwar spoke against! All that is happening now is worse than the previous administrations! - Mkini
