Prominent businessperson Syed Mohammad Shafiq Syed Jaafar has filed a police report, calling for an immediate investigation into an individual.
The person was accused of fervently promoting Israel and pressuring the Malaysian government to establish diplomatic ties with the controversial Zionist regime.
Syed Mohammad lodged the police report at the Bukit Aman district headquarters earlier today, whilst being supported by several pro-Palestinian NGOs including Aman Palestin.
Malaysiakini is withholding the individual's name pending a response.
“We urge the authorities to investigate the individual who was clearly promoting Israel as well as encouraging diplomatic relations with Israel.
“Despite the government having no diplomatic relations with Israel even since gaining independence, he (the individual) urged for an Israel embassy in Malaysia.
“Therefore I urge the authorities to locate his whereabouts and question why he is promoting the Zionist agenda,” he said.
Syed Mohammad also urged the Home Affairs Ministry to revoke their citizenship if the person was found to be a Malaysian citizen.
He said that efforts to promote the Zionist regime may impact Malaysia’s stand on the issue, as well as lead to public concern.
In a video interview featuring the individual and an Israeli influencer, Hananya Naftali, the former had allegedly asserted that the Arab community in Malaysia has negatively influenced Malaysians' perception of Israel.
The person, who claimed to be residing in Johor Bahru, also pointed to active radical Arab activities within the country.
The interview went viral on social media yesterday, but checks by Malaysiakini found that the video was first uploaded to Youtube on Dec 17, 2021.
It was since reshared to Naftali’s X platform yesterday and prominently displays the Israeli flag alongside the Malaysian flag in the video background.
Naftali is a prominent Israeli influencer. In an interview with Hungarian media Hetek in 2022, he said he was Benjamin Netanyahu's social media advisor including producing content for and managing Netanyahu's social media accounts. - Mkini
