Fahmi brushes off claims govt MPs will support PN

SEPANG: Claims that government MPs will support Perikatan Nasional are mere speculation, said unity government spokesman Fahmi Fadzil.

Fahmi, who is also the communications and digital minister, called on  opposition politicians to stop issuing statements that will confuse the public.

Earlier today, Bersatu Supreme Council member Redzuan Yusof was reported by Sinar Harian as saying there was speculation that MPs from the government bloc, including Barisan Nasional and PKR, will support PN to form a new government.

“If we look from the beginning (of the unity government) to now, every month there is a new story (about MPs switching allegiance),” Bernama quoted Fahmi as saying.

“To me, this is something that the opposition will always talk about.

“The basic issue is the refusal of the opposition to sit down to discuss this with the deputy prime minister for us to reach an agreement,” he said, in an apparent reference to constituency development funds.

Five Bersatu MPs have recently pledged support for Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim and his government, stating that they were doing so to gain allocations for constituency development.

Anwar has repeatedly called on the opposition to negotiate with deputy prime minister Fadillah Yusof for allocations.

On Nov 3, PN chief whip Takiyuddin Hassan said the coalition did not continue negotiations with Fadillah as PN was requested to write in for the allocations, as well as make certain assurances.

However, he did not clarify the assurances or promises requested by the government. - FMT
