'Islam under threat' narrative like a spooky ghost story - Mat Sabu

 

Amanah president Mohamad Sabu has likened the “Islam under threat” narrative played up by Pakatan Harapan’s political opponents to a spooky ghost story.

In his winding-up speech at the Amanah National Congress, Mohamad noted how the narrative, despite being unproven, had during the last 15th general election successfully taken down Harapan and Umno leaders in their strongholds.

“This is a heavy matter that we need to face. We must unravel how (is it that) Malays are under threat? How is Islam threatened?

“That is just a phobia. Like how we say there’s a ghost in a tree. 

“No one can prove the tree is haunted, but whoever passes below the tree, they will get goosebumps,” said Mohamad.

He said the false narrative had even convinced intellectuals, so Amanah must work together with its allies - old and new - such as Harapan and BN.

Meanwhile, PAS leaders have accused Amanah as its splinter party of failing to address purported threats to Islam and the Malays, as it has the least number of seats in government.

Among others, Mohamad said Amanah will keep up attempts to penetrate PAS’ strongholds in Kelantan and Terengganu, with the latter now having zero opposition representatives at the federal and state level. -Mkini
