PETALING JAYA: Malaysia will host the world championship of the Mobile Legends: Bang Bang multiplayer online game competition next year, deputy youth and sports minister Adam Adli said.
It will be the second time Malaysia hosting the event after the inaugural championship in 2019.
Adam said the decision by the game developer to select Malaysia as the host was an achievement for all Malaysians.
Speaking in Manila at the final of another e-sports competition, the M5 world championship, he paid tribute to Malaysian representatives Homebois and Team SMG.
Although they failed to qualify for the finals, their unwavering spirit was greatly admired by all, he said.
Mobile Legends: Bang Bang is a multiplayer online battle arena game designed for mobile phones which has gained popularity in Southeast Asia. It was developed and published in 2016 by Moonton, a subsidiary of ByteDance of China.
Malaysia is reported to be among the top countries in the MLBB e-sports scene since Moonton started hosting a professional league in Southeast Asia in 2018. - FMT
