MELAKA: Melaka has received an additional RM2 million from the tourism, arts and culture ministry to promote Visit Melaka Year 2024 (VMY2024).
Tourism, arts and culture minister Tiong King Sing said it was in support of the state’s hard work in bringing in tourists to spur the state’s economy, Bernama reported.
“Congratulations to Melaka, especially the exco who worked tirelessly with the ministry to promote Melaka and Malaysia to China,” he was quoted as saying, referring to Melaka tourism, heritage, arts and culture committee chairman Abdul Razak Abdul Rahman.
“His aggressive promotion abroad to attract tourists to Melaka will contribute to the state’s economy,” Tiong told reporters after the launching ceremony of VMY2024 and the New Year’s eve celebration at Pangkalan Rama here last night.
In November, The Sun reported Razak as saying that Melaka spent RM5 million for VMY2024’s promotion and publicity campaign, locally and abroad.
Tiong said the ministry is ready to help all states achieve their tourism targets, including Melaka, Perak, Perlis and Kelantan which are implementing similar programmes to promote travel to their respective states.
“Apart from Melaka, only Perak has expressed interest in applying for additional funds to promote the state’s tourism,” he said. - FMT
