Honda probes ‘new HR-V in workshop for months’ complaint

PETALING JAYA: Honda Malaysia said it is looking into a customer’s complaints on social media about numerous problems with her HR-V, after it was sent in for its first 1,000km service in September.

In a posting on Facebook, she said the car has been in the service centre for four months. “Yet, every month, I have to pay RM1,500 for a car I can’t use,” she wrote.

A Honda spokesman said the company was aware of the complaint and was “very concerned”.

“We are already in direct communication with the customer and are in the midst of a thorough internal investigation on this matter,” the spokesman told FMT when asked about the posting by Noriya Mamat from Terengganu.

Noriya wrote that she bought the car on Aug 26 and had taken the car to the Gong Badak service centre on Sept 2 for its first 1,000km service.

She said she encountered numerous problems since then. The headlights could not be adjusted and the emergency lights were constantly on.

She sent it in, and collected the car after a week, but the problems persisted. She has been going back and forth since then. After a few weeks the centre said they could not identify the problem, she said.

Four months later, Noriya was told that the problems could not be resolved.

“On Jan 10, I was contacted by the Honda Malaysia headquarters and they informed me that the car would be taken to Kuala Lumpur for a month to find a solution.

“Why does Honda take so long for cases like this?” she said.

Noriya said Honda had provided her with a Perodua Myvi and later a Honda City as a courtesy car.

Tonight, the Honda spokesman said the primary goal now was to solve the issue amicably and promptly.

Noriya’s ordeal comes days after a clerk, S Nagakanni, was in the news about her Perodua Bezza, which she said malfunctioned within eight hours of purchase in October.

On Jan 6, she said Perodua had agreed to repurchase the faulty Bezza at full price, and would reimburse the loan repayments. - FMT
