PETALING JAYA: A PKR division leader claims the party intends to lodge at least 50 police reports against Dr Mahathir Mohamad following the former prime minister’s accusations that Indians were not completely loyal to Malaysia.

Thiban Subbramaniam said 15 reports had been lodged against Mahathir’s “hate-filled rants”, including one by him.

“Reports have been lodged in Penang, Sungai Buloh, Klang and Kuala Langat.

“A few more will be lodged today and tomorrow as well,” the Kuala Selangor division leader told FMT.

Thiban said he was receiving requests through social media for a copy of the police report he lodged yesterday at the Klang police station, where he urged the police to probe the two-time prime minister.

In an interview with a Tamil news channel based in Chennai, India, Mahathir said the Indian community was not “completely loyal to Malaysia”.

He reportedly claimed that Malaysian Indians want to identify themselves with their country of origin instead of fully assimilating and “becoming Malay”.

He drew brickbats from various quarters for his remarks, including national unity minister Aaron Ago Dagang, digital minister Gobind Singh Deo, Muda and a few former DAP MPs.

Earlier today, former federal minister Rafidah Aziz, who served under Mahathir during his first stint as the prime minister, said the loyalty of Malaysians to the country should never be questioned.

Rafidah said Malaysians of different ethnicities have done the country proud in various industries at the international level, adding that some did so without financial support from the government.

“Still, they remain Malaysians. They did it all as Malaysians,” she said. - FMT
