An officer to Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim is demanding RM5 million compensation from Bersatu information committee member Badrul Hisham Shaharin over an alleged defamatory Facebook post.
In a statement this afternoon, lawyers acting for the premier’s senior political secretary, Shamsul Iskandar Mohd Akin said this was among demands listed in a letter of demand issued today to Badrul, also known as Chegubard.
On Jan 6, Shamsul (above) lodged a police report against Badrul over corruption allegations levelled against the former.
According to the letter of demand, Shamsul gave Badrul five days from receiving the legal letter to pay the RM5 million over the alleged defamation.
Shamsul also rubbished the allegations, demanding Badrul to retract the online posting and make an unqualified apology in media outlets chosen by the former.
He also seeks a written undertaking from the Bersatu leader to not repeat the allegation.
Shamsul's lawyers from law firm SN Nair and Partners said that they have instructions to commence legal action in court in the event Badrul fails to abide by the demands.
Malaysiakini is attempting to reach out to Badrul over the matter.
In the post uploaded on Jan 5, Chegubard said he was gathering evidence of alleged corruption by Shamsul.
He claimed that Shamsul, through his staffers and proxies, were using their political allies to abuse NGO funds.
Badrul added that he would reveal the details on Jan 8, which includes handing over evidence to the authorities. - Mkini
