PETALING JAYA: Police have received 17 reports against the joint management body of low-cost flats in a Kuala Lumpur suburb over RM2 million in outstanding electricity bills.

The reports were filed by the residents of the low-cost flats at Bandar Tasik Selatan 1, according to a Berita Harian report quoting Ramli Yoosuf of Bukit Aman.

He said the first complainant had reported that he suspected misappropriation of funds by the JMB chairman. Ramli said a counter-report had been lodged by the JMB chairman denying the allegation.

Ramli said the first report was lodged by a 35-year-old resident who said he discovered electricity disconnection notices from Tenaga Nasional Berhad for all five blocks, which were said to have outstanding bills of nearly RM2 million.

“The complainant alleged that no payments have been made since January 31, 2022, even though residents have been paying a monthly maintenance fee of RM50 per unit to the JMB.

“In light of the arrears, the complainant suspected misappropriation of funds by the JMB chairman and filed a police report,” said Ramli, who is director of the commercial crime investigation department.

Ramli said the complainant and other residents had filed several complaints with the Kuala Lumpur Commissioner of Buildings since July 2022, and that follow-up action was in progress.

Ramli said the case falls within the jurisdiction of the commissioner as it involves the Strata Management Act related to offences by the management body. - FMT
