Sabah Education director Raisin Saidin announced his department will seek an explanation from a teacher who allegedly made offensive remarks about a disabled student.
According to a report by the New Straits Times, the teacher mistakenly shared remarks and a photo of the child with the pejorative anak bongkok (hunchback) in a parent-teacher WhatsApp group.
The message was captured and uploaded onto TikTok.
The child’s father then lodged a complaint with the Education Ministry.
“All students, especially those with special needs, should be treated with utmost care.
“The Sabah Education Department has initiated an investigation into this case and will summon the teacher involved for an explanation,” said Raisin (above).
He added that a warning has been issued to all district education offices and headmasters to remind teachers not to upload any comments about students on social media that could negatively impact the students’ dignity. - Mkini
