KUALA LUMPUR: Perikatan Nasional (PN) deputy chairman Datuk Seri Ahmad Faizal Azumu has dismissed claims suggesting that he had a meeting with Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim yesterday.

Ahmad Faizal, who is also Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu) deputy president, described such claims as slander and an attempt to create disunity in the party.

"Wallahi (I swear to Allah), (the claims is) not true.

"I notice there is an effort to create disunity in Bersatu.. There are many slanders being spread to create misunderstanding (among leaders and members of the party).

"If leaders, at all levels, agreed that we can sit at the same table, I believe that Bersatu is okay with that idea," he told Berita Harian.

Ahmad Faizal, who is the former Perak Menteri Besar and former Tambun member of Parliament, was responding to claims that he had attended a meeting in relation to the support by Bersatu MPs towards Anwar and the unity government.

It was reported on Wednesday that Tanjong Karang MP Datuk Dr Zulkafperi Hanapi has become the sixth Parti Pribumi Bersatu (Bersatu) MP to pledge his support to Anwar.

Besides Zulkafperi, others Bersatu MPs who have declared their support for Anwar included Datuk Syed Abu Hussin Hafiz Syed Abdul Fasal (Bukit Gantang), Zahari Kechik (Jeli), Mohd Azizi Abu Naim (Gua Musang), Datuk Iskandar Dzulkarnain Abdul Khalid (Kuala Kangsar) and Datuk Dr Suhaili Abdul Rahman (Laban). - NST
