Anwar, PH hypocrites for using Sedition Act against Muhyiddin, says Hamzah

Bersatu secretary-general Hamzah Zainudin criticised Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim for his repeated and cruel usage of the Sedition Act after coming to power.

PETALING JAYA
Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim and Pakatan Harapan’s leaders in the government are hypocrites for using the Sedition Act against Bersatu president Muhyiddin Yassin, says the party’s secretary-general Hamzah Zainudin.

In a statement published on Facebook tonight, Hamzah railed against Anwar and PH for their repeated and cruel usage of the Sedition Act after coming to power.

“Bersatu strongly condemns the hypocrisy of Anwar and PH’s leaders, who previously opposed the Act and promised in the PH manifesto to abolish the ‘draconian law’ should they form the government after GE15.

Ironically, they have used the Act repeatedly and cruelly to pressure and oppress their political opponents since becoming the government,
 he said.

Earlier today, government spokesman Fahmi Fadzil stressed that the government had nothing to do with the sedition charge against Muhyiddin.

He said the Cabinet was informed in a meeting today that the charge against Muhyiddin was not based on a police report by the government, but rather one by a representative of the Pahang palace.

“The government will not involve itself in this matter. An investigation was conducted by the police, on which the prosecution is based.

It is important to remember that the original police report was made by the Pahang palace,
 Fahmi told reporters.

However, Hamzah claimed Muhyiddin’s prosecution was politically motivated, pointing at what he called a

hurried
decision to prosecute without accounting for the facts and statements from the main individuals involved, or examining the documents surrendered.

The accusation against Muhyiddin is extraordinary, (given that) the inspector-general of police confirmed that the investigation paper was handed over to the attorney-general on the same day Muhyiddin’s statement was recorded,
 he said. - FMT
