KOTA KINABALU: A special integrated operation led by Kota Kinabalu City Hall has identified the presence of crocodiles in two rivers in the city.
According to a report issued by City Hall's Research and Innovation Department, crocodiles were present in Sungai Darau and a river area flowing close to the City Hall's work depot in the Inanam area.
The findings were based on an integrated crocodile monitoring operation around the city conducted by 65 multi-agency Crocodile Threat Management Committee personnel from Aug 19 to 20.
However, the report said that monitoring carried out using boats and drones concluded that the number of crocodiles in the city is under control.
It said follow-up operations are conducted every four months to monitor the wildlife population around the city.
The operations involved personnel from City Hall, the Wildlife Department, the police, the Fire and Rescue Department, the Civil Defence Force, the Marine Police, the Navy and Sabah Parks.
The operations, which ran from 8am to 10pm, also covered Teluk Likas public park, where public sightings have been reported.
The report said that the operation was a proactive measure to ensure the population's safety and well-being from wildlife threats.
City Hall urged the public, who had information about the presence of crocodiles around the city, to immediately report it to the authorities through the emergency line provided.
