BN pledges no assessment tax hike in Negri Sembilan for 5 years

REMBAU: Barisan Nasional (BN) will not increase assessment tax in Negri Sembilan for five years if it returns to power after the state election, state BN chairman Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan said.

Mohamad said the state government should not rely on higher taxes to increase revenue but instead generate income through development.

"We will not increase assessment tax for the next five years.

"We want to increase the state's revenue, but not by taxing the people.

"We want to grow state revenue not by imposing higher taxes on the people, but by developing the state. Development will generate revenue, not taxing the people," he said.

Mohamad was speaking at a programme with the Indian community in Taman Intan, Rantau, last night.

The BN candidate for the Rantau state seat also said people who wanted to run small businesses should be allowed to do so, provided they complied with safety and cleanliness requirements.

"Anyone who wants to do business should be allowed to do so, as long as they observe safety and cleanliness.

"This is an era of economic challenges. If a wife is good at making nasi lemak or kuih, there is nothing wrong with her starting a small business selling them," he said.

Mohamad said the government should increase revenue through development and economic activity rather than imposing more taxes on people already burdened by the rising cost of living.

"People are already struggling with the high cost of living, yet they are expected to pay more taxes.

"We must manage the state, or the country, as a business entity. Revenue should come from business activities and development, not from taxing the people," he said. - NST
