The Pakatan Harapan communications director said such politics should not be practised, urging politicians instead to promote unity and respect the country's diversity.
"His statement reflects a widespread attitude within Pas. Previously, we saw statements on the immigrant issue from the Pas president himself.
"This is not good politics. Politics should promote unity, understand differences, and strive to unite people, not divide them," he said at a Wayang Pacak event in Taman Saujana Rompin near here last night.
Fahmi, who is also Communications Minister, said with National Month underway, all parties should focus on uniting the country rather than issuing statements that discriminate or divide the community.
"I hope Datuk Seri Sanusi learns a lesson and changes his attitude, though I believe that will not happen," he said.
Sanusi was previously reported as saying that Malaysia is the only 'Tanah Melayu' for Malays, while other races have their own countries of origin, such as India and China.
The Pas central election director made the remarks during a talk in conjunction with the Negri Sembilan election on July 24.
Sanusi has since insisted that his remarks had been twisted for political gain.
He said he would take legal action, including filing lawsuits, against any individual or party that deliberately manipulated his remarks.
Fahmi also addressed a statement by Mara chairman Datuk Dr Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki, who claimed DAP secretary-general Anthony Loke could be a candidate for menteri besar if incumbent Datuk Seri Aminuddin Harun lost in the state polls.
He noted that under the Negri Sembilan Constitution, the position of menteri besar has been reserved exclusively for Malays since its enactment, urging Asyraf Wajdi to apologise for the claim.
"I hope he apologises to the people of Negri Sembilan for the mistake he made," Fahmi said.
Meanwhile, Fahmi dismissed former Rembau member of parliament Khairy Jamaluddin's prediction that PH would only receive about 10 per cent Malay voter support in the state.
He said the political dynamics in Negri Sembilan were vastly different, expressing confidence in Aminuddin's administration, which he said had proven its ability to look after the welfare of all races.
On Umno deputy president Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan's suggestion that the 16th General Election could be held by the end of the year, Fahmi explained that the matter had never been discussed in the Cabinet and described it as a personal opinion.
He stressed that the main focus of Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim and the Cabinet was to stabilise the economy and navigate the effects of geopolitical conflicts in the Middle East, rather than engaging in prolonged politics or early elections. - NST
