Marine cop shot as colleague unloads firearm

A marine police officer was shot and injured by a fellow officer at a guard post in Lahad Datu on Monday after the colleague’s firearm discharged while he was unloading it, say police.

Lahad Datu police chief Dzulbaharin Ismail said a report on the incident, which occurred at a marine guard post in the district, was lodged the same day.

He said the victim sustained injuries to the middle finger of his left hand and his abdomen.

“The victim received initial treatment at Lahad Datu Hospital before being referred to Tawau Hospital for further treatment.

“His condition is reported to be stable, and he is still being treated and monitored at the hospital,” Harian Metro quoted him as saying in a statement.

The case is being investigated under Section 37 of the Arms Act 1960, relating to the offence of discharging a firearm and injuring another person. - FMT
