Jakim director-general Datuk Dr Sirajuddin Suhaimee said inspections found that the live chickens used in the operation were supplied by the company.
He said the preliminary findings followed intelligence gathering and inspections conducted by Jakim, the Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Ministry, Health Ministry, Federal Territories Islamic Religious Department and Selangor Islamic Religious Department.
"Checks also found that the premises and chicken products slaughtered by the company did not have a Malaysian Halal Certification Certificate issued by Jakim or any state Islamic religious authority.
"Inspections also found that Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) had ordered the premises to close from Oct 10, 2026, following health-related violations," he said.
Sirajuddin said Jakim had also requested confirmation from DBKL on the premises' licensing status and the identity of the entity operating the chicken processing activities to facilitate further assessment and action by the relevant authorities.
He said Jakim took any slaughtering activity that did not comply with Islamic law seriously.
"Compliance with Islamic law in the slaughtering process is a fundamental requirement that must not be taken lightly.
"Any identified violations will be addressed through enforcement action in accordance with the law and the respective authorities' jurisdictions," he said.
Sirajuddin said Jakim would continue to work with relevant enforcement agencies to strengthen monitoring and ensure appropriate action was taken against any identified violations.
A video showing a questionable chicken slaughtering method at premises near Pudu Market in Kuala Lumpur recently went viral on social media. The footage came to light after an individual showed it to a group of community activists.
Putrajaya member of parliament Datuk Dr Radzi Jidin was later reported as saying that an investigation was needed to establish where the chickens were supplied and sold to ensure halal status and food safety.
Bhuiyen Sdn Bhd subsequently denied allegations that it was involved in the unauthorised slaughtering of chickens shown in the video, which circulated on the TikTok account Shopian & Abeobe.
In a statement, Bhuiyen management stressed that the company and all its branches were not involved in the slaughtering method shown in the video. - NST
