ACCORDING to the Cambridge Dictionary, to ‘take a dim view’ of something or someone means to disapprove of it, regard it with disfavour or have a low or sceptical opinion about it.
This was precisely the sentiment of a few keyboard warriors who were none too pleased at a Muslim’s teacher’s perceived too-tight-for-school outfits.
Threader ally.farhanaaa (@ally.farhanaaa) had highlighted a teacher’s outfit which were surmised to be “more appropriate for a kenduri (wedding feast)” instead of within the hallowed halls of learning.
With plenty of ostentatious jewellery on show as well, it was opined that the threads were a touch too tight for a person purporting to be an educator in a public institution.

Not content on naming and shaming with images of the flashily dressed educator, this put-off poster saw fit to share details of the teacher’s Tik Tok account. It was claimed that advice posted on the teacher’s social media was to little avail as it was deleted.
She also remarked that even when parents pick up their kids, they are mindful to be properly attired. “Doesn’t matter if the teacher is slim, do at least wear looser clothes when at school,” she pleaded. “Pupils ts are asked to wear tudung while the teacher …”
The unfinished sentence perhaps underlined the sense of disapproval of this poster at the perceived lack of sensitivity of the teacher at her surroundings.

Needless to say, there are many who saw fit to pour opprobrium on the teacher’s tone-deaf dressing which many thought were ill-advised.
One conservative commenter noted that “some teachers these days were more interested in showing off their figures than teaching”. Another felt that this particular educator had took up the wrong career. “Perhaps she should have pursued modelling?”

This being social media meant that the poor hapless teacher became a target for ridicule and nasty comments. These nuggets ranged from the teacher “looking like a hag” to “being hard up”.

Casting more aspersions were a couple of commenters who claimed this particular teacher was dressed to kill as she was hunting for a potential husband among fathers of her pupils.
One even went further by claiming that this teacher had her evil eye trained on a few unsuspecting targets.

Some Muslim parents admitted to feeling embarrassed that it was the non-Muslim educators who seemed more in line with school dress codes than Muslim teachers.

“Alas, some teachers are a stubborn lot.” This seemed to be one concerned observer’s lament that certain breed of teachers would not listen to advice even after being admonished by superiors.

However, one reasonable-minded citizen decided to stand out for the teacher when she argued that “sexiness is subjective”. It was argued the teacher did nothing wrong as this scene was preferable to pupils “losing mood to learn when facing hypocritical teachers”.

There are many ways to make a point.
Firstly, it should be noted that this teacher has done absolutely nothing wrong. She is covered from head to toe, no less. If some pious-minded individuals feel she is revealing too much, where does one draw the line?
Will non-Muslim female teachers wearing knee-length skirts be singled out next?
Secondly, naming and shaming an individual on social media is NOT acceptable. If one feels strongly enough, have a word in private or take it up with the school authorities.
But please do NOT share the details of her social media account alongside unpixellated pictures of her pupils! – Focus Malaysia
