Rauf calls BN a “beautiful maiden” being courted ahead of Melaka polls, but netizens have other ideas

MELAKA Chief Minister Datuk Seri Ab Rauf Yusoh likened BN to a “beautiful maiden” being courted by several political coalitions seeking cooperation ahead of the upcoming Melaka state election.

The Melaka BN chairman said several parties were expected to come forward with proposals to “woo” BN in the near future, paving the way for the coalition to “legally marry”.

“Of course, we are a beautiful maiden, so many are interested in courting us. They will have to wait,” he said.

“So, as the ‘head of this family’, I will certainly choose whoever offers the best dowry to become my son-in-law,” Rauf added.

The story which was posted on X by Berita Harian has since garnered quite the fiery response from our netizens too.

According to netizen @mkrash, they resemble more of a maiden who robs people.

“The pervert mindset is like this,” pointed out @cybernout10 while @Osman09404006 cautioned BN from being married to a widower who got rejected.

@Osman09404006 did not elaborate on who the widower was, but readers should have little trouble using their imagination.

However, @farhz_neo felt that BN was in fact an old lady.

“A maiden who already got holes blown into her by squirrels. No body wants her,” said @PelitaRaya2.

Here is also a photo comment from @qazwsx130426210 which about sums up what people think about BN being a lovely, young maiden being courted by numerous suitors.

@samsulrazi further lamented that BN should just stay true to their mission to create a blue wave and wrest Selangor from the hands of PH.

Previously, PN and PH were reported to be planning talks with BN ahead of the Melaka state election.

This followed Rauf’s decision to leave the door open for negotiations with any party under the “BN Plus” formula, although he stressed that such talks would not necessarily result in an agreement or understanding.

Meanwhile, Rauf said that, so far, no political party or coalition had held formal discussions on cooperation for the Melaka state election.

He said any negotiations in the future must be based on BN’s priority of defending the 21 state seats it won in the 15th Melaka state election.

Meanwhile, commenting on the stance of UMNO youth chief Datuk Dr Muhamad Akmal Saleh, who said he would not contest in the state election if BN cooperated with PH, Rauf said it was still too early to draw any conclusions.— Focus Malaysia

WHEN Malaysians hear that a cat is stuck somewhere, the usual image that comes to mind is a furry feline sitting helplessly on top of a tree, waiting for someone to rescue it.

But one cat apparently decided that being stuck in a tree was far too predictable. Instead, it ended up on the roof of a moving Perodua Myvi.

A social media post shared on X by @bckupacc99 captured the rather unusual sight of the feline perched on top of the moving car, seemingly having the ride of its life.

How the cat managed to get onto the roof in the first place remains a mystery, but judging from the situation, it appeared to have found itself an unexpected mode of transportation.

Most cats prefer climbing trees. This one apparently prefers horsepower.

Fortunately, someone spotted the unusual passenger and alerted the driver, who stopped the Myvi and got out to help the cat down.

And that was probably a good thing, because nobody really wants to find out what happens if the driver hits the brakes.

Check out the comments from our fellow netizens too.

“Thankfully cats have nice lives,” said @arsengalmy. The scene also prompted @Donmizul to share about a similar experience involving a black cat.

Then there was @gajirozan pointing out that it was all in the cats plan to get a new master.

@coco86x probably summed up the entire video in several words.

The incident is also rather fitting given the Myvi’s legendary reputation in Malaysia for being able to carry almost anything.

Furniture? Sure. Large household items? Apparently. A cat on the roof? Well, now we can add that to the list.

Thankfully, the driver’s intervention meant the cat’s unusual road trip ended safely. For everyone else, however, there is now one more thing to check before driving off.

Forget checking only your mirrors, tyres and fuel. Check the roof too. Because in Malaysia, you never really know who or more importantly, what, might decide to hitch a ride.— Focus Malaysia

Verify source first before viralling fake news of Roberto Carlos purported conversion to Islam

Letter to Editor

WITH tree-like thighs, Roberto Carlos quite possibly defined the position of fullback in the modern game of football.

Strong, monstrously athletic and able to relentlessly cover vast swathes of pitch, the Brazilian legend capped his game off with an almighty bazooka of a left foot.

His physic-defying freekick scored in a 1997 friendly against France still bamboozles football fans and pros alike till this very day. Watch the clip, scratch your head and simply be amazed at what he was able to do a leather football.

Add a glittering career at both club and international level where he won every major trophy including Champions Leagues and a World Cup speaks volumes of his achievements as a purveyor of the beautiful game.

But it wasn’t his glittering career nor clips of his incredible skills that got chins wagging this week.

It was images of Carlos who retired from professional football in 2012 getting hitched to his Moroccan-Lebanese partner in a ceremony overseen by respected Islamic figures in Brazil.

This quickly led to “news” that the flying fullback had embraced Islam with many Muslims (both local and abroad) rejoicing in welcoming their new brother into the fold.

This high-profile conversion was wildly celebrated with plenty of “congratulatory” messages.

What if the table is turned?

Now, here’s the thing I would to kindly point out to my Muslim friends. Some of the “rejoicing” could do with a little toning down.

What would be the reaction if non-Muslims similarly “celebrated” a Muslim renouncing his or her faith? Imagine seeing “congratulatory” messages on one’s social media feeds on such an individual’s daring feat.

How would Muslims feel? Or is there a different set of rules that apply here?

Some sheltered Muslims here also think that Syariah principles apply elsewhere in the world the same way in Malaysia.

If you want to marry a Muslim, you must convert first. That assumption doesn’t apply in non-Muslim countries like Brazil where the ceremony took place.

Surprise, surprise, of all people, to exercise caution in the scramble to announce the former Real Madrid player’s supposed conversion to Islam was controversial Muslim convert preacher Firdaus Wong Wai Hung who counselled that it was “not verified yet”.

As highlighted by a Muslim commenter, do not be so swift to spread unverified news. This including claims of high-profile individuals such as astronaut Neil Armstrong, pop icon Michael Jackson and Portuguese super brand Christiano “CR7” Ronaldo to have made the leap.

He could not hide his contempt for those who used such materials to preach, lambasting them for having a “pathetic attitude”. It was also quite rightly pointed out if Carlos chose to remain a Roman Catholic, it is entirely his choice.

As it stands, the multiple La Liga champion confirmed in a clip that he has NOT embraced Islam though he is making steps to study the religion more closely. He is deeply respectful towards his new spouse’s religious practices but quite clearly denies converting.

The lesson here is always verify first before spreading the “good news”. Also, be mindful that such “news” may NOT be viewed positively by all and sundry. Again, if the tables were turned, how would Muslims feel?

In the meantime, it is perhaps enough that we celebrate the player for his extraordinary feats on the field rather than poking our collective noses into his matrimonial affairs and religious status.

I would think “World Cup Winner” would suffice as a description.

KUANTAN:
Four men armed with parangs and a suspected pump gun carried off about RM500,000 in jewellery from a goldsmith’s shop in Taman Pandan Damai here today.

Kuantan police chief Ashari Abu Samah said four men wearing face shields fled on two motorcycles at about 2pm with an unspecified amount of jewellery.

“The initial estimated loss is about RM500,000 and the exact amount is still in the process of verification,” he said in a statement today.

A witness, who wished to be known as Maria, 39, said she saw one of the robbers outside the shop holding two weapons, including a long parang. All the robbers were wearing dark-colored raincoats and hurriedly left the premises on two motorcycles without registration numbers.

“The atmosphere at the time was quiet because it was Friday prayer time, and it happened so fast. We were also worried about our personal safety when one of the suspects held a weapon and was outside the premises,” she said. - FMT
