Education minister Fadhlina Sidek says matters of public concern, including bullying and racial taunts, must be addressed promptly.

The education minister said matters of public concern, including bullying and racial taunts, must be addressed promptly.
“My thoughts and sympathy are with the family and the school community following the loss of our child, a student at a school in Kuala Lumpur,” she said in a Facebook post.
“The education ministry will cooperate with the police as well as work closely with the social welfare department and health ministry to ensure this matter is handled comprehensively.”
Fadhlina said the teenager’s family had been provided with psychosocial support by the ministry’s counselling team.
The ministry’s Smart Support Team has also been mobilised to provide psychosocial support and crisis intervention to affected students.
“Our priority is to ensure justice for all parties and take appropriate steps to maintain a safe educational environment, free from any form of bullying and discrimination.”
The death of the 14-year-old, identified as Keziah Nisha, sparked calls for investigation from several quarters, including PKR Youth chief Kamil Munim.
Kamil said the incident should prompt broader reflection on racism in Malaysian society.
He said if racial hatred was normalised among children in schools, the country faced a problem “far bigger than a single incident”.
PKR deputy secretary-general G Sivamalar earlier said there were claims that the teen’s family had lodged a complaint through the government’s Public Complaints Management System several months before her death. - FMT
