UUCA
Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim today said the bill to repeal the Universities and University Colleges Act 1971 (UUCA) is expected to be tabled and passed in the Dewan Rakyat this year,
ADSAccording to FMT, Anwar, during a “Temu Anwar” session with students today, confirmed that he had informed the cabinet of his intention to repeal the law.
Anwar said the law was introduced in 1971 during his days as a student leader at Universiti Malaya to curb student activism, including his own, and he was committed to abolishing UUCA rather than merely amending it.

“Now that Anwar is prime minister, should we just change the law a little? I disagree. Give young people space. They are adults and mature.
“Will they make mistakes? Of course they will. Educate them and advise them,” he reportedly said.
DAP national chairperson Gobind Singh Deo has urged the police and MACC to provide an update on investigations into the alleged “corporate mafia” operations, which the cabinet ordered to be thoroughly investigated in March.
“In March this year, the cabinet directed a thorough probe into this matter. Ample time has passed since then for both the police and MACC to look into the allegations and carry out the necessary investigations,” the digital minister said.

DAP national chairperson Gobind Singh Deo Gobind also called on Inspector-General of Police Khalid Ismail and MACC chief commissioner Abd Halim Aman to clarify whether individuals who could assist the probe, including Victor Chin, had been questioned.
He reminded them that the case was of significant public interest and could affect market confidence.
Anwar said Malaysia will review new investment applicants to ensure their operations create jobs and deliver tangible benefits to the domestic economy.
He said the Investment, Trade and Industry Ministry had identified companies using Malaysia mainly for warehousing and transit activities without meaningful local economic contributions.

“The ministry has alerted us to the presence of some companies that use warehouses that would not give any advantage, both in terms of employment and economic benefit.
“We have stopped those activities, but we have to review the new applicants,” he said after launching the TikTok Shop Summit 2026 today, Bernama reported.
Anwar was responding to concerns over cheap imported products entering Malaysia through cross-border platforms such as Temu and Pinduoduo.
