Health ministry warns about unproven claims of hydrogen inhaler

The health ministry warned the public to be wary of sales activities that deliberately targeted them with high-pressure tactics or emotional appeals regarding hydrogen inhalation as a wellness product.

KUALA LUMPUR:

The health ministry has advised the public, particularly senior citizens, to be cautious about unproven claims regarding the health benefits of hydrogen inhalers or hydrogen machines (generators).

The ministry said the device has yet to be approved by the Medical Device Authority (MDA), adding that all medical devices sold or used in Malaysia must be registered with the MDA under the Medical Device Act 2012 (Act 737).

“The sale, distribution or advertising of unregistered devices is an offence under the law and may result in enforcement action,” the ministry said in a statement on X.

The post also featured a video clip linked to the sale of a hydrogen inhaler, claiming it is therapeutic for heart disease, diabetes and high blood pressure.

It also warned the public to be wary of sales activities that deliberately targeted them with high-pressure tactics or emotional appeals regarding hydrogen inhalation as a wellness product.

“Members of the public are urged to check the registration status of any medical device on the MDA’s official website before buying them to avoid the risk of fraud or adverse effects.

“The public can lodge complaints about the sale of unregistered devices or misleading advertisements with the ministry or MDA, and must seek advice from registered medical practitioners on health matters,” it added. - FMT
