Parti Keadilan Rakyat announced plans to spearhead a peititon for 1 million signatures to pressure water distributor SYABAS to surrender the management of its services to the Selangor state government.
"We have received too many complaints from through Biro Kepenggunaan (Consumers bureau) of poor and sub-standard services from SYABAS. SYABAS is supposed to provide quality water, clean water but till now, consumers complain of interrupted supply and dirty water," Yahya Sahri, the head of the PKR consumers division told a press conference on Friday.
"The problem is that SYABAS has been too political. It must stop this and become more professional. From the statements SYABAS bosses are now issuing, it is as though the company is a division of Umno."
Yahya's bureau, together with 35 NGOs, 360 village heads and more than 500 heads of communities in Selangor and Kuala will kick off the petition on Saturday.
