AFTER the recent DAP election results fiasco, the party’s assistant national publicity secretary Zairil Khir Johari now has another unusual issue to contend with — he has apparently been given a new name by the press.
The recently-elected Central Executive Committee (CEC) member yesterday was not amused after being referred to as “Zairil Abdullah” in several newspapers.
“Umno (linked) newspapers unilaterally gave me a new name! It’s crazy.
They must have mistaken my father for (Tun) Abdullah Ahmad Badawi?” he told The Malay Mail yesterday.
“This is ‘name-terrorism’. How can people make up a new name for me?”
This turn of events came after the recent DAP election results controversy where tabulation errors resulted in Zairil’s unsuccessful election bid into the committee.
After making corrections, Zairil was found to have received enough votes to be elected to the CEC.
This has resulted in criticism as to whether he was the right representative for the community amid claims he was not completely Malay by descent.
DAP’s multi-racial credentials continue to be under fire as none of its Malay candidates were elected to the CEC.
