Solidariti Anak Muda Malaysia (SAMM) chairperson Badrul Hisham Shaharin has been summoned to the Petaling Jaya magistrate’s court tomorrow, where he will be charged under the Peaceful Assemblies Act with organising the PJ Black 505 rally on May 25 without prior notification.
SAMM and several other NGOs had defied a government crackdown and warnings to organise the rally at Padang Timur on May 25, which attracted a crowd of around 70,000 people in an event that lasted until midnight.The 35-year-old Badrul, or more fondly known as Chegubard, is alleged to have committed the offence at 5pm on May 25, under Section 9 of the Peaceful Assemblies Act (PAA) 2012.
The court summons alleges that Chegubard did not manage to provide the mandatory 10 days’ advance notice to the police before organising the rally.
