SUHAKAM LANTIK BEKAS PENYUNTING SABAH TIMES



KOTA KINABALU : Bekas penyunting New Sabah Times Sylvester Madating @ Nordin Kasim yang baru dilantik sebagai anggota Suruhanjaya Hak Asasi Manusia Malaysia (Suhakam) bertekad untuk menyumbang idea-idea yang bernas kepada badan itu.

Nordin, 60, berkata beliau akan mengemukakan idea yang boleh membawa kebaikan kepada rakyat Sabah dan menambahbaik sistem pengurusan Suhakam di Sabah termasuk masalah berkaitan Tanah dan Tanah Adat negeri. Beliau menggantikan Jannie Lasimbang, bekas wartawan Radio Televisyen Malaysia (RTM) Sabah.
"Saya terlibat aktif dalam beberapa kerja-kerja kebajikan berkaitan hak kemanusiaan kerana saya minat berhubungan dengan masyarakat yang memerlukan pembelaan," katanya yang akan memulakan tugasnya secara rasmi esok. Selain aktif memperjuangkan hak-hak kemanusiaan, beliau juga meminati bidang kewartawanan tetapi ia 'bukan karier selamanya' bagi beliau.

Nordin yang berkelulusan Ijazah Sains dari Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) dan memiliki Diploma Pengajian Perniagaan Universiti Teknologi Mara (UiTM) aktif dalam pertubuhan bukan kerajaan (NGO).

Antaranya Habitat for Humanity Kota Kinabalu Affiliate, Kota Kinabalu AIDS Support Services Association (KASIH), Sabah Pensioner's Association dan Sabah Society for The Blind. Beliau juga antara aktivis yang lantang memperjuangkan hak kepenggunaan dan berpengalaman sebagai fasilitator dalam beberapa seminar termasuk berkaitan perundangan pengguna dan Tuntutan Tribunal Pengguna.   6. Pemangku Sultan Perak, Raja Dr. Nazrin Shah bertitah, Yang di-Pertuan Agong dan Raja-raja Melayu bukan boneka yang hanya sekadar menurunkan mohor perkenan kepada setiap dokumen yang dipersembah dengan mata tertutup, mulut terkunci dan tangan terikat tanpa kuasa menyuarakan pendirian.

  7. Sebaliknya, titah baginda, raja dan Yang di-Pertuan Agong berperanan sebagai penimbang tara yang adil dan saksama jika mendapati nasihat yang dipersembah menyimpang daripada undang-undang, tergelincir daripada landasan keadilan, berunsur penindasan atau boleh memudaratkan negara.

  8. Baginda bertitah, raja tidak harus rasa tertekan dan tidak semestinya memberi perkenan jika nasihat yang dipersembah bertentangan syarak, bercanggah dengan Perlembagaan serta undang-undang sehingga memungkinkan berlakunya penindasan dan kezaliman.
